Little Red Mountain was the richest mine in Colorado. It produced gold and silver from 1870 to 1980. The richest mine in the area was Little Annie, with a ribbon of ore 17 feet wide, (5.15 meters) that assayed from $80 to $2,000 a ton. Sadly it was not Cameraannie's although I refer to her as My Little Annie. AT one time the Ghost town of Summitville had a population of 600. It had five saloons and a 112 stamping machine in their foundry. All came to an end in 1980 due to water runoff carrying Cyanide and other toxic chemicals that contaminated the Alamosa river for a 25 mile stretch.
