6pm, Jokulgil, Landmannalaugar, Interior Iceland. I had to wait three days for this shot. Two days of complete rain, a wall of water- mist that slewed visibility to half a mile. One day of threatening skies, with occasional vibrant breaks of blue through the grey ceiling. Finally, around 5pm, the sun sank into a position that it started to break laterally through the cloud-gaps, and it was simply a case of checking the composition (I'd been sat in this exact spot waiting for about three hours) and then crossing my fingers that some of the light would trace its path across the far rhyolite mountains and highlight their fantastic colours. This was one of the first shots, and still shows the dark skies with patches of brilliant post-storm blue in the distance.
