A 1 cm Robber Fly, genus Megaphorus, shot at about 1X near Anza, California. Like all flies, they're very sensitive to any movement and are difficult to sneak up on. They're voracious ambush predators and will take down a wide variety of prey, including wasps, bees and ants. They're very fast fliers and the prey is often bigger than they are.
