Following the Civil War, a wounded, recovering soldier, made his way West, to this lonely site. He had found a good spring, among the rocks in the background, and staked out his ranch, in this desolate country. It was close to a weeks wagon ride to the nearest town, but he built his cabin, and brought his wife, son, and cattle, to this isolated, desert wilderness. If you look closely, between the rails of the right side fence, you can see the open door into a cold cellar. that he dug out of the rocks and sand. His wife managed to tough it out for about three years, before she finally left, but he remained there for many years. His name was Wolfe, and his ranch is located in what is now, Arches National Park, Utah.
