"Alabama took the hardest hit by far. As of early Friday morning, CNN reported that 228 people in 19 counties had died in Alabama. A state of emergency was declared by the president shortly after the storms raged through."

Behind me while taking this shot Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) workmen were doing what could be done with several of these pylons that had been turned into crumpled twisted piles of metal laying on the ground. They are much much bigger than they look. Over 400,000 people and businesses in three near by cities have no electricity. Dusk to dawn curfew is in effect to prevent crime.

On the 27th day of April 2011 a 1.25 mile wide F5 tornado with winds in excess of 200 mph cut its way through my area leaving a 90 mile long path of utter destruction. I lost nothing, I suffered no loss. Four miles away homes were obliterated, people died. It has not been a good time for any one.

Edit Tues. May 10:
I have updated the facts above as they have become known to me.

Much good has been done among the people in need by many many volunteers. Food and water has been plentiful for those in need and the amount of volunteer effort has been outstanding. The initial emergency has passed, but the healing and rebuilding is only just beginning. This is going to take some time.
