The gardens lying to the south of the castle of Vaux occupy a surface of 33 hectares..The Turkish Carpet Parterres,or bed of sculpted box, are bordered on the right by a raised flower bed and on the left by the steepsided Crown Parterre .Yet this dissymmetry does not disturb the harmony of the view..The Grottos mark the end of the garden and appear to be constructed at the end of the Great Water Mirror when seen from the castle..Slopes and vast steps surround the Grottos and conduct you to the Spray Basin...From the railing overlooking the Grottos or from the foot of the gilt lead statue of Hercules, the plunging view nothward reveals the garden in its entirety:the reward for having walked 1800 metres, from the château to here..
