I have no idea where he was headed but he was headed there in a hurry. Maybe the fish were biting up at the other end of the lake. Or maybe he was late for dinner. Or maybe the price of fuel wasn't high enough and he felt like burning through a couple of extra liters for lack of anything better to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Or just maybe I'm reading too much into the scene.
