Ordinarily it's not a smart idea to walk the line as a speeding locomotive can be quite speedy and silent when approaching from behind. But the other day I had to traverse about a half-mile of track lugging all my gear so I could continue working. It was either that or sit on my keister for the rest of the day and do some navel pondering. I was getting paid regardless of what I choose to do. So it really didn't matter.
