First off, before I get hate mail, and also I realise this is a little extreme for some but the photo on the right side the collage IS NOT REAL. The photo on the left is my father around 1945. The photo on the right is play acting, which may seem disturbing, but war isn't nice poses of soldiers and gravestones. I believe my father is one on the ground while his buddy holds the rifle. I do not have any graphic photos from my dad's war collection, so this is as hard core as it gets. My dad didn't really talk much about the war, expect during Christmas, when he and his platoon were stranded behind enemy lines and were starving and freezing to death. He always had to reminds us around Christmas that X many years ago he was in Bastonne watching his friends die. As hard as it was to watch, I am so glad the beginning of Saving Private Ryan was the way it is. War is that ugly. My father and millions of others have seen things we can't imagine, and their service and sacrifice is deeply honoured. I realise it's Memorial day here in the states, but I, along with everyone, also honour the same sacrifice many allied forces made as well.
