We were exploring the ravine by our house last night, to see if we could find the hawks nest, as we could hear a juvenile screeching for it's supper.
So we (me & Brooke) headed off the beaten track and in thick undergrowth up the side of the ravine.
This naturally disturbed the mother, who kept fluttering to different tree tops, to squawk at us. So we were at around tree top hight, but further away, thus the small image.
Funny thing is, as we got closer to the top of the bank (the elevation is around 200 feet) I came across a hole - looked like the entrance to a large burrow. The dog hadn't noticed it and had luckily sniffed by. So I was about to get the camera out again, when I noticed a spiny tail.
That's when I decided it was more sensible to not provoke the porcupine with a flash, on a 45 deg slope, in thick undergrowth and not quite sure how much further up the bank we had to go. And last thing I needed was starting a conversation with the missus on the basis of "well, about the dog...."
So this concludes the Hawk series: Millennium Falcon,
10 tail feathers,
Off on the wind,
watch the birdie and
3 for the price of 1
