- The loss of the "Fitz" also inspired the creation of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society in 1978... The GLSHS keeps alive the memory of not only those who perished on the aforementioned, but all those lost in ship bound disasters occurring within the entire Great Lakes Region...
