The area surrounding the Greek Theatre on the LSU campus became The Enchanted Forest in the 1930's . At one time there was a 8 foot statue of Desoto the Spanish Explorer. The statue was destroyed and thrown into the Mississippi River . The locals say the statue met the same fate as the man.
