The Joyce Hale was built in 1980 in St.Louis, MO . She is 157.5 feet long and 45 feet wide . In January 2010, the 6,000-hp boat and its tow struck an interstate highway bridge that crosses the river at Caruthersville, Mo., causing its 20 loaded barges to break free. Her home port is Philadelphia, PA . She is a regular sight up and down the length of the Mississippi River . Dan and I were lucky to see her on the river in Louisiana while we were riding a ferry . I love tow and tug boats and while this does not do her justice ... here she is , she is quite impressive in person . When I see any type of a ship/boat , Cornelius and Raj always come to mind .
