Punakaiki is a small community on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, on the edge of the Paparoa National Park. Nearby are the well known 'Pancake Rocks' and blowholes. The pancake layering, which is limestone, can also be seen in these rocks. Punakaiki is named from the Maori words 'puna' for a spring (blowholes) and 'Kaika' meaning 'to be in a heap' (pancake rocks). The West Coast is famous for its greenstone carving. Known as Te Wahipounamu in Maori, meaning ‘the place of greenstone’ This picture seemed better without a frame so I have resized up the 2MP original. I hope it displays ok in the larger version.
