Lake Brunner (Surface area 40 kmē Max depth 109 m) Westland, NZ. Named after Thomas Brunner who was the first European explorer to set foot on the West Coast in 1846. The Maori name for the lake, Kotuku Moana, means "Waters of the White Heron." In this area the average annual rainfall is 3.8 METRES! . . .
