Many people on first seeing the colours of the rivers and lakes in this area are amazed by the beautiful colour, and often photos are suspected of having been enhanced. This is straight off the camera with no adjustments at all. It is the Pukaki River Canal which flows through three hydroelectric systems towards Lake Benmore in the Mackenzie Basin in Canterbury,South Island, New Zealand. This is taken where it exits Lake Pukaki, where I stopped as I spied some curves :) The turquoise colour is caused by the glacial feed to the lakes which created glacial flour, finely ground rock particles from glaciers. It is an impressive sight when the control gates are fully open. I think it contrasts well with the barren winter brown of the surrounding landscape. . . Shot with Canon EOS 450D. I may do some work on it - I think it needs sharpening a bit, and some sky cropped off.What do you think? Comments most welcome.
