Built in 1882 of mud bricks, The Vulcan Hotel at St Bathans in Maniototo, Otago, New Zealand is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl,a barmaid who died of a broken heart in Room #1.Several years ago a television film crew claimed to have encountered the ghost. They were frightened, left St Bathans without finishing their filming – and never returned.
Pre the mid 1930's St Bathans was a thriving gold mining town of over 2000, but now has a population of less than 10 (+ one ghost). In its heyday there were 13 hotels to serve the thirsty miners of St Bathans.
