If you cross the little bridge on the other side of the fountain in THIS photo you will discover this statue.
It was inspired by the Peter Pan Statue in Kensington gardens in London which was seen by Robert Milligan, the Mayor of Oamaru. He commissioned Thomas Clapperton to sculpt The Wonderland Statue and it was unveiled in 1927, as a gift to the children of the town. It depicts a boy and a girl looking down on birds, animals and fairies.
Although the JM Barrie characters were the inspiration, the boy and girl are representing any children being entranced by the wonders of nature.
