In a little fishing village called Salek Khok I came upon these ladies preparing the evening meal, they graciously gave me permission to photograph this private family tradition. As fishing village folk on Koh Chang go this family must be quite prosperous, this is a large house compared to the majority of local housing I saw. It is only vaguely visible in this image but the water below the ladies was swarming with little fish eating the scraps that fell thru the flooring the ladies were working on. A kind of natural recycling process, feed the little fish now so they grow strong and big then catch them and eat them and let other little fish eat their scraps and so on ... For all the beauty and majesty of some of my other photos from Koh Chang, this is one of my favourites, for the simple reason that of all The Things That Matter, people matter most and this shot shows so much about the lives of these friendly, dignified, hard working, tough and resourceful Thai fisher folk.

Enjoy.

Mikel.
