Ginninderra Creek flows past my suburb, usually it's about a metre wide and hidden by a deep channel and thick grasses. With ridiculous amounts of rain in our region the last two weeks we've had flooding all over the place. I took this shot when the waters were already receeding. The sun was setting behind me, but it was also on the "other" side of that hill you see on the left, so the sky still was getting plenty of light and reflecting it back onto the water at this low angle. I was lucky, a low hillock gave just enough elevation to capture the serpentine path of the flood waters without loosing that reflected light off the water. No, my camera is not capable of capturing this dynamic range but the raw file is and I layered two different processings from the same file together for this. I was also lucky that the nice puffy cloud was sitting just there, the sky would have been a bit blander without it's differential textures there.

Enjoy.

Mikel.
