This is called a "Feeder" ship. These are smaller container ships which carry containers from ports which are too small and shallow to accommodate the larger container vessels. The containers are brought to ports like Hamburg for further shipment on larger ships. Similarly they carry back containers that have been discharged from the large vessels.
