Starlings are very common birds in Britain - flocks of them can number in the tens of thousands, and the sight (and sound!) of them coming in to roost is unforgettable. But as single birds they're quite remarkable too - in the sunshine their "black" plumage flashes iridescent green and purple, and in winter they sport white spots, as modelled by this individual.
