Pine tree branch from Munnar, Kerala, India
Early in the spring, on the branch of a tree,
the bright green budding leaf was an easy thing to see.
Brightened by the sun and absorbing its rays,
it stretched itself and grew just a little every day.
Early in summer, on the branch of a tree,
the dark green healthy leaf was a pleasant thing to see.
It shared its branch with hundreds of others;
it brought life to the tree, with its sisters and brothers.
Early in autumn, on the branch of a tree,
the orange firey leaf was an awesome thing to see.
So vibrant it was, its beauty so rare!
It looked like a flame as it danced on the air!
Early in winter, on the branch of a tree,
the wrinkled brown leaf was a sad thing to see.
It trembled feebly on a gust of cold breath;
its spiraling fall was the sign of its death.
Late in the winter, on the branch of a tree,
the layer of snow was a cold thing to see.
A blanket of white lay thick all around,
covering the leaf that lay on the ground.
Early in spring, on the branch of a tree..
