These flowers change appearance over time, and I thought I would try and track the progress of one bloom. This is the same blossom as "Prarie Coneflower 1" but two and a half days later. Notice how the flowerlets on the cone are starting to open, and the petals are larger, with the dark brown taking up much more of the petal than before. You can also begin to see why these are called "Mexican Hat" as well...once all those flowerlets begin to open, they definitely start to look like a sombrero.
