Up until the beginning of the 20th century, there were estimated to be around 80-100,000 geishas in Japan. Today, genuine geishas are rarer than hens teeth! So to come across this one in the Gion district of Kyoto with her two apprentice maikos, was a real find. Hope you like the picture.
