Although I have tagged this picture under "places of worship", the Taj Mahal is really a mausoleum. In 1631, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, was so grief stricken when his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the birth of their 14th child, that he started to build the Taj Mahal in her memory. The principal mausoleum was completed in 1648. The surrounding buildings and garden were finished 5 years later. Hope you like the shot.
