On Feb 22, 1540. Don Fransisco Vasquez De Coronado started into mid America looking for Cibola. The seven cities of gold. On June 29 1541 he and his men crossed the Arkasas river just south of Ft. Dodge. Naming it St. Peter and St. Paul because they crossed on that holy day. Father Juan De Padilla a Tranciscan Friar led in a mass of thanksgiving. This is the first know Christian service in this part of America. This 35 foot cross comemorates that day. I hope you all enjoy it.
