An example, I hope, of the use of shading to achieve a sense of volume, one aspect of Chiaroscuro. I purposely chose an image that lacked context and used a series of processes to reduce the skin texture allowing the shading alone to express the shape and volume. It also gave it an abstract and slightly strange look and feel.
