Depicted is the traditional windmill "d'Heesterboom" (shrub tree) in Leiden, a town in the province of South-Holland, the Netherlands. The mill dates from 1804 and was built for the sawing of wood.
When you'll check-out THIS LINK you may see a YouTube video wich gives you an impression of the functioning of such a sawmill (I used 'may' because I really hope that this video can be seen in other countries too rather than only mine).
