The original 'Halve Maen' ('Half Moon') was built in 1606 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On April 6th, 1609 the 'Halve Maen' started her voyage with the English captain and navigator Henry Hudson and a mixed English and Dutch crew in order to find a safe westward passage to the wealthy Spice Islands in the Far East.

The passage wasn't found, but they did another important discovery. For the complete story, please check-out this link.

This is however the replica of the 'Halve Maen', depicted on October 22th, 2016 during a port call in Middelburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

PS: please notice at full screen size the crew member working in the 'crow's nest' in top of the middle mast.
