Recently the liberation of the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands from the German occupiers by allied troops of Canada, France, and the UK was commemorated.

Walcheren was very important from strategic point of view because the entrance to the port of Antwerp, Belgium could be controlled there. Without the use of Antwerp the allied forces couldn't be provided with supplies. At this depicted spot in 1944 a landing action was performed. The depicted monument, showing a landing commando, is a tribute to the heroes who has given the highest price for our freedom: their live!
