This image is to a certain extent an optical illusion, because one may think that this statue belongs to the interior of the Dom Cathedral in Utrecht, a city in the center of my country The Netherlands. It's however situated on a square just in front of one of the side walls of the Dom Cathedral. The background shows a huge photograph attached to this side wall, showing the interior of the Dom Cathedral.

This six-meter high statue is a monument showing a woman carrying a torch, as a symbol of the resistance against the German enemy during WWII. The statue was in 1949 created by sculptor Corinne Franzén-Heslenfeld, who was assisted by Wladimir de Vries. The woman has a classic design, with a bared upper body and a draped skirt. A female figure was deliberately chosen, because of the Utrecht women's participation in this resistance.
