A visit to Mechelen isn't complete without a visit to the St. Rumbold's Cathedral.

The construction of what is now the cathedral was already started at the beginning of the 13th century, it was consecrated in 1312 and around 1450 the starting signal for the St. Rumbold's Tower was given.

The cathedral is rich in works of art, starting with the Gothic choir and the funerary monuments of the archbishops. Also on display are the coats of arms of the knights who took part in 1491 in the fifteenth chapter meeting of the prestigious Order of the Golden Fleece, led by the 13 (!) year young duke Philip the Handsome (Philp I of Castile).

There is also a 25-part series of paintings about the life of Saint-Rombout or Rumoldus.

The interior of the cathedral shows what Mechelen looked like around 1500.

Obviously I took several pictures in the cathedral. I plan to show some of them from time to time.
