This wooden sculpture don't show an elephant ( 😁 ) , but a mammoth.
It's the artwork 'Lost and Found' created by Dennis Klip, coming from Terneuzen, a town in Zeeland, The Netherlands.
His work, and that of many others, is currently rising along the Terneuzen waterfront for the annual 'Imagination Route' (a route with all kind of contemporary art sculptures). Klip was inspired by the prehistoric finds that were made during the construction (still in progress however) of the 'Nieuwe Sluis', a giant new lock giving larger sea going vessels entrance to the Belgian port of Ghent. Klip: "I could hardly imagine that tens of thousands of years ago mammoths walked on what is now the sea wall." He explains his artwork this way: "The environment and landscape of that time are in stark contrast to the digital age in which we now live. It is therefore extra important to give new meaning to the things that have been left behind."
