When I saw this scene, I initially thought that a picture of this original artwork would be a suitable entry for Manic Monday (M²), but that wouldn't do justice to the ceramicist Daisy Boman.
The name of her ceramic creations are derived from her family name and are called 'bomannetjes' ('Boman men') and this artwork as a whole is called 'De Antwerpse Fluisteraar' (The Antwerp Whisperer).
It can be found in the city of Antwerp, Belgium at a façade and on top of a building on the Godefriduskaai (Godefridus quay).
The figures that form the artwork here are in fact enlargements of her 'Boman men', originally white clay figures with a square head. She made the first 'Boman men' more than 25 years ago. The figures represent man in his most primitive form. The square head refers to society: it gives you a square head. The faces are expressionless. The white color refers to the colorlessness of hope, sun and life, but also that of mourning and pain.
I read about the 'Boman man' on top of the roof: "Suddenly he was there, in the heart of Antwerp. High on the roof. With his head in the clouds. Keeping an eye on things, where ships residents and visitors feel the wind in their sails."
I assume that the climbing 'Boman men' also want to experience this, 😁 !
