This image, taken on November 8th, 2025, shows the Monnikendam water gate in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
The water gate is a historic structure that allows the Heiligenbergerbeek stream to flow into the city's inner canal system. It features two brick towers with spires and a central archway over the water. The water passage under the arch could historically be closed off by a gate. The name is likely derived from the Augustinian monks who lived nearby since 1394.
