Decided to point the telescope at the next door neighbor. Thought you might be interested in what she looks like up close, unretouched with no make-up on.

This little snapshot depicts the region near the Carpathian Mountains. It was chosen because of its proximity to the terminator, where the contrasting shadows emphasise the depth of the craters.

For scale, the tiniest "dust speck" is a lunar feature about 2 miles in diameter. The interesting pattern when viewing the larger images is created by atmospheric defraction.

The camera: Research STL-1001E, with a 24.5 X 24.5 mm chip.

The lens: Cassegrain 9686 mm @ f/15.889 with a wavefront accuracy of 0.023 lambda RMS (Perkin-Elmer).

The location: Caney, OK, near the corner of Folsom and Post Oak.

This shot has virtually no redeeming photographic value, but I thought I would start 2008 out with an out-of-this-world post. {:-)=)

As I learn to handle the Kodak STL-1001E, you can expect to see an occasional deep space shot from time to time.
