Spring has begun in Southern California. All of our bushes are flowering. Last week I shared a Goldfinch feeding on Mulefat seeds. This week it is a White Crowned Sparrow feeding on Willow catkins.These particular catkins are the male ones, covered with yellow pollen. Soon the female catkins will begin to swell and explode with seeds. All of our birds are making up for lost time and gorging themselves. Many in preparation for their flight back to the north.
