One of the main reasons we head to Cambria every January is the watch the Elephant Seals pup. Hundreds of them gather on one of the only sandy beaches to give birth and mate. At first it looks like a bunch of brown maggots ( really big ones!!!), but if you look closer and watch all kinds of drama will play out. The two black pups are maybe only a few days old. Their skin is wrinkled as they have not had enough time to put any weight on, but just wait, soon they will look like inflated balloons. The mother in back still has blood on her face from licking her pup after its birth. Over the next few days starting next week I will share some of the drama with you.
