Found this one enjoying its morning on chunk of floating ice this morning. Took a zodiac boat around the harbor to see what I could see. This is a Leopard seal, sometimes referred to as an Antarctic Grizzly, as they can be quite aggressive towards other things in the water. If you are on land with it, you're pretty safe. From the looks of its teeth, I know I would sure hate to tangle with it. I'm sure many of the local penguins would agree. This was taking near "Lover's lane" (a local ice bridge that recently collapsed) which is close to Palmer Station, Anvers Island, Antarctica.
