Took a leisurely week to drive up the Oregon coast early last month and one morning at low tide was able to snag shots of this ghost forest. The Sitka Spruce stand had been on a hillside and about 2,000 years ago an earthquake from the subduction zone off the coast caused it to be buried for centuries until a series of storms in the 1990s gradually uncovered them. The tall ones seen here are almost 9 feet (3 meters) tall and covered in barnacles, muscles, and starfish you can see at low tide. You can learn more here. Neskowin Beach State Park, Neskowin, Oregon, USA.
