Sugar maple's leaves differ from those of red maple (Acer rubrum) in a very distinct way: the leaves of sugar maple have only large lobes while red maple's leaves have smaller teeth within each lobe (if you don't believe me, check out my Acer rubrum photo). This is a small feature which helps to distinguish the two species from one another. Hope you like!
