on the left side of the photo you see the mortuary temple of queen hatshepsut. behind the temple is a mountain wall which separates the temple from the valley of the kings. if you enlarge the shot you can see that the valley of the kings seems to be riddled with holes. these are the entrances to the tombs which go way back into the mountains. i think that you'll this photograph best when you look at it BIG so you can see the stuff i'm mentioning. any questions, just ask. i'll try to come up with an answer. thanks for your comments in advance.
