While out hoping to get some shots of monarch butterflies, I came across this hungry guy. This is a monarch caterpillar in stage 2 munching on the vital milkweed plant that is essential for their survival. By now he is probably in the pupa stage (3) where in approximately 14 days a majestic monarch butterfly will emerge. This year I am seeing more monarchs and that's a very good sign - there's been an ongoing effort for people to plant milkweed in their gardens to assist the in the monarchs survival.
