Jamestown, Virginia, USA. A mile from the original site of Jamestown is a recreation of the fort. Moored near Historic Jamestown, as the recreation is titled, are three reproductions of the three ships that brought the first settlers to the island in 1607. Small in size, the Susan Constant (116 ft long, 120 tons), Godspeed (68 feet long, 40 ton) and Discovery (38 feet, 20 ton), carried 105 passengers and 38 crew on a voyage that took 144 days, far longer than the planned and provisioned 2 months. It was not a pleasant voyage. Here, seen in silhouette are the Discovery and Godspeed.
