Charles City County, Virginia, USA. In its early years, Shirley Plantation's cash crop was tobacco. Cotton replaced it, and currently is still planted. The fields had been harvested only days before we visited the plantation. A few plants, with opened bolls still attached, make a nice arrangement in one of the barns.
