Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. With its dark color, and smaller size, this is a young alligator. In cooler and drier weather (winter), it slows its metabolism, movement, and eats less food. Being lazy hunters, alligators look for an easy meal when they are hungry.. Clearly, this young one was not hungry, as there was a school of fish, seen in the upper left, that it ignored as it swam to this location. While swimming, its movements were so subtle that the water did not ripple.
