Abu Simbel built by Ramasses II to celebrate his alleged victory at the battle of Kadesh. He ruled from 1279-1213 BC, it's said that he had over 100 hundred children, that's a lot of birthdays to remember. The temple was moved in the 1960's to prevent rising water from the great dam covering it up. Every stone block was cut using hand saws as mechanical saws would not cut accurately enough and some of the work spaces were a bit tight.
