Went exploring with my family a week ago. This is an inside view of the Tabernacle for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brigham City, Utah. More about the building (from http://inbrighamcity.com/2010/07/25/brigham-city-tabernacle/) "The instruction to build the Brigham City Tabernacle came from Brigham Young in the year 1865 and the corner stones were laid on May 9th of that same year. City leaders intended the Tabernacle to be built on the corner of Forest and Main Street but Brigham Young, during a visit to Brigham City, led them to a spot known as “Sagebrush Hill.” Being built on the highest point along Main Street in Brigham City, the Tabernacle would be visible many miles across the valley... Work on the Brigham City Tabernacle proceeded slowly at first while most of the local labor was diverted to completing the transcontinental railroad, but in 1876 construction resumed in earnest and the first meeting was held in the partially completed building in 1879. The original building was “sturdy but plain in apprearance” and in 1889 (ten years later) a conference of the members of the Box Elder Stake voted to “complete” the building. Improvements such as adding a tower, gallery, rear vestibule, and brick buttresses with decorative caps were added to the building and President Wilford Woodruff dedicated the building in October 1890. Six years later a fire gutted the building in an hour, leaving only the “smoke-blackened stone walls.” No one was injured, fortunately. 13 months later the building had been reconstructed with finer woodwork, a gothic-revival tower, and 16 graceful pinnacles. In 1971, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1985 an extensive restoration project began to replace the electrical and mechanical systems, reinforce the structure and renew the exterior." The restoration was completed in 1987. The building is open for tours, if you're ever in the area.
