FIESA is a mega exhibition of sand sculptures held since 2003 in Pera, Algarve. This year's instalment, is entitled 'The Living World'. More than 45 talented artists had 35,000 tonnes of sand at their disposal to create temporary masterpieces. This one is dedicated to Egyptian Deities. As you know many gods in Ancient Egypt were depicted with a human body and the head of an animal, or simply as animals that symbolized qualities attributed to the gods. BASTET, goddess of fertility and happiness was represented as a cat wearing a necklace, as you can see in this sculpture or as a woman with the head of a cat – an animal which was revered and considered sacred.
